My million dollar house has a higher utility to me as my family home, sanctuary and man cave than my million dollar equity in a real estate company.
Similarly pension funds purpose is to ensure theor benefitee get to retire. So what if my pension fund has above average ROI while i am working but lose it all when i retire.
The market value of something is only one indicator of value but it is not the end ll be all. And it is in this that i hope the ESG movement stop trying to use data to condemn companies but focus on developing a more transparent measurement framework for us to measure value beyond financial value.
